Rest in peace, Dick Butt.

Now I’m more than aware that some might consider this in bad taste, but the fact of the matter is this obituary has been going viral and the world has lost one of its greatest Dick Butts this year. On Friday, 93-year-old Richard A. “Dick” Butt passed away in his hometown of Spokane, Washington, after struggling with heart disease for several months. ┬áHe was born in Washington state on April 4, 1921, and was the 4th of eight children. His parents, Will and Helen Butt, raised him on a farm and in high school, Dick was “remembered for his pitching prowess”.

In 1945, Dick married Bessie Olsen. The two settled down after Dick’s stint at Broadmoor College. Dick became a massage therapist and operated his own practice until 2007. “He was a legend in his field” the obituary also reads. Dick is survived by his children Susan, Sandy and Steve, as well as 7 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild, as well as his brother Bob Butt.

A memorial service is scheduled to take place at the Rose Chapel at Hennesseey Funeral Home on September 5. The Hennessey Funeral Home and Crematory has also provided a memorial web page for those who wish to leave their condolences and well wishes to Dick and his loved ones.

I didn’t know Dick Butt personally but lets take a moment to remember a guy who lived a long life and had one heck of an awesome name.

Rest in peace, Dick Butt!
