Spider-Man is set to join the Marvel cinematic universe!
This news will make the geeks (including myself) very happy! There has been all kinds of speculation in regards to the future of Spider-Man on the the big screen, and as of today things are looking very bright for everyone’s favourite friendly neighbourhood Spider-Man.
In a deal struck between Sony Pictures and Marvel Studios, a new Spider-Man will debut in a thus-far unspecified movie within the Marvel cinematic universe, of which afterwards Sony will then release a new instalment in its own Spider-Man series. Whether this will be a continuation of it’s current series it yet to specified but it is safe to say introducing the web slinger into the Marvel cinematic universe will open up a whole new realm of possibilities for the character on the big screen.
In even more exciting news, Sony’s next Spider-Man movie has been given an official release date of July 28th 2017. In the official press statement it is said that both Marvel and Sony will be collaborating on a new creative direction for the web slinger. Now if you ask me it sounds like Son’y current Spider-Man cinematic universe including Drew Goddard’s Sinister Six and Alex Kurtzman’s Venom spin-off is being set aside for something bigger and greater. However I might be wrong, but I just can’t see how they will make them fit now without coming across overly forced. However what has been confirmed is that Marvel Studios’ Kevin Feige is set to join Sony Pictures’ Amy Pascal in co-producing the 2017 Spider-Man film.
Feige also seems pretty damn happy about the news too. In the official press statement, he’s quoted as saying “I am thrilled to team with my friends at Sony Pictures along with Amy Pascal to produce the next Spider-Man movie. Amy has been deeply involved in the realisation on film of one of the world’s most beloved characters. Marvel’s involvement will hopefully deliver the creative continuity and authenticity that fans demand from the MCU. I am equally excited for the opportunity to have Spider-Man appear in the MCU, something which both we at Marvel, and fans alike, have been looking forward to for years.”
Now Sony is yet to confirm that they will continue with making The Amazing Spider-Man 3 as planned or whether Andrew Garfield’s days as the web slinger is over. I’m sure all will become clear in the coming months. However now speculation will begin as to which Marvel film Spidey first shows his head, but if you ask me, my bets are on Captain America: Civil War
