The D23 Expo is definitely the place to be this weekend, where attendees get all the latest information about Disney’s upcoming projects, especially everything concerning the upcoming Star Wars: The Force Awakens film. The convention is being used to debut a host of new information and promo materials from many of Disney’s properties and is also the place where we get our first look at the Star Wars: The Force Awakens poster.

The iconic painted posters for the Star Wars films have long served as key visual links between each of the films. This new promotional The Force Awakens poster especially released for D23 Expo attendees is no different, created by artist Drew Struzan, who’s famous style has graced posters for the other films in the Star Wars Saga, including the Indiana Jones films.

While Struzan is yet to create the primary poster he’ll make for the film, it does provide a bit of new information surrounding the post of the forthcoming film. Jon Boyega’s character, Finn, will appaenrently be a Jedi or at least one in training. This is the first time we’ve seen his character wielding a lightsaber, the the one true weapon of a Jedi. It must also be noted the poster features new villain Kylo Ren, Rey, and popular fan favourite, Han Solo.

It was initially reported that this poster would be the main poster art for the upcoming release of the film, as cool as it is,  it doesn’t strike me as the kind of poster to be released representing the film considering it is lacking three other returning iconic characters, Princess Leia, Chewbacca and Luke Skywalker. My thoughts are we’ll be seeing the final Star Wars: The Force Awakens poster in coming weeks. And when that day happens, it’ll be a happy day for Star Wars fans all over the world!

Are you excited for The Force Awakens?
