The Academy Awards have been and gone. Congratulations to Leonardo DiCaprio finally getting an Oscar. I personally think he should have gotten one way before now. But hey better late than never right? I did have high hopes of a telemovie being made about Leo never getting an Oscar and then the actor playing him actually winning one, but that dream is now shattered. Well it seems all the Oscar buzz has led to a segment for the 2011 special 6 Days to Air: The Making of South Park about how Trey Parker and Matt Stone’s 2000 Oscars appearance has been doing the rounds once more.
The controversial duo was was nominated for Best Original Song for “Blame Canada” from their musical (Yes, it does actually count as a musical) South Park: Bigger Longer & Uncut. What made their appearance so special? Well it turns out it wasn’t the fact that they showed up in drag and Parker was specifically mimicking the revealing Versace dress that Jennifer Lopez wore to the 2000 Grammys, in actuality it was the fact that the two rocked up to the awards ceremony on acid! Turns out a friend had some sugarcubes dosed in LSD, and the two thought it would be a bright idea to get on it for the awards.
“If you’ve taken acid, you know that one of the trippiest parts of being on any psychedelics is transition,” explained Stone. “When you go inside to outside or outside to inside. I will never forget the moment getting out of the limo and a thousand fucking people and every camera in the western hemisphere there. And it was like … let’s go!”
