Gareth Edward’s Rogue One finally has a new trailer, and for the briefest of moments it features the biggest villain in the history of Star Wars, the dark lord of the Sith, Darth Vader! The trailer provides the first teasing glimpse audiences have had of the character on the big screen since 2005’s Revenge of the Sith.
Rogue One takes place just before the events of 1977’s A New Hope, when the Death Star was being built and Vader was in his prime as The Emperor’s most feared galactic enforcer. What I love about this is this timeline allows Edwards to not only bring back a little nostalgia with the franchise’s familiar iconography and designs creating a love letter to that 70’s feel found in the original.

The return of Darth Vader had long been rumoured since news of the standalone Star Wars film first broke. It has been also reported that James Earl Jones had come in to do some voice recording for the iconic character. However, Edwards has been very secretive as to amount of screen time that the character will have in the new standalone film. Fingers crossed we get to see Vader in action and not just a brief cameo.
I’m liking what I’m seeing so here’s hoping the don’t mess it up!
